Today, I ordered a katsudon.
First, they brought me some hot green tea.
Then, the katsudon was served with pork soup and pickled cucumber!
I started with pork soup. The broth was very flavorful and delicious. It was so good I wanted a bowl of it.
The pork cutlet in the katsudon is covered in just the right amount of batter and is so tender you can cut it with chopsticks.
You can tell it’s been deep-fried slowly and carefully to seal in all the juices.
The sauce that soaks into the pork cutlet, egg, and rice is adjusted so that when eaten together, it has just the right flavor. It’s not too sweet, not too salty…it has just the right taste. It’s just as delicious as the Showa era katsudon.

The softly stewed onions have a pleasant crunch to them.
The pickled cucumbers served as a palate cleanser are lightly salted.
The bowl of rice, pork soup, and pickles are all nicely put together, making this a masterpiece that really shows the skill of the chef.
As you’d expect from a long-established local tonkatsu restaurant!
