Curry rice at a Western restaurant

This small Western restaurant is located in an alley just off Ekoda Street.

It is run by a husband and wife and has only counter seating.

It has been loved by locals for over 50 years, and its appearance and cuisine are a “genuine” Showa-era restaurant. It is often full within 30 minutes of opening.

I had a craving for curry rice today, so I ordered hamburg curry.

The stainless steel bowl is reminiscent of the Showa era, and it is served with a generous amount of fukujinzuke pickles.

The curry is closer to European style, but has the mild spiciness of an old-fashioned Western restaurant. Because it is mild, it may be closer to a home-style taste, but it is consistently delicious.

Each dish is carefully prepared, so when it’s busy they’ll ask you, “It will take some time, is that okay?”

Now, to continue with my food review…

The hamburger steak is soft and you can tell it’s been kneaded by hand. Both the curry and the hamburger steak have a homemade feel to them, and combined with the homely, gentle atmosphere created by the husband and wife owner, this is a restaurant where you can enjoy a leisurely meal. The Showa era is great.

As I continued to eat, I tried the strange-tasting fukujinzuke…it was such a Showa-era deliciousness that the only thing I could think of was that fukujinzuke really goes well with curry.

This is a delicious and atmospheric restaurant that makes you want to go back every week and try their other dishes.
