Tonkatsu with rock salt !!

This time, I ordered a katsudon at a tonkatsu chain restaurant called “Aoki.”

As it is a tonkatsu specialty shop, it takes some time to serve the food as it is fried only after an order is placed.

In the meantime, I browse for condiments on the counter.

What caught my eye was “Namak rock salt”.

I think it’s usually used for tonkatsu set meals, but I decided to use it for katsudon.

So, the katsudon was served. It wasn’t bound with egg, but rather the type where the tonkatsu is placed on top of the egg.

First, the first bite was the tonkatsu as is… soft. You could taste the umami of the meat.

Then, I sprinkled the rock salt on it…?! This is delicious! It’s too delicious!!

It felt like I’d found a treasure. The rich flavor of the rock salt brought out the umami of the meat.

It was a real discovery!

The light-flavored egg dish was as if the addition of the rock salt had been calculated.

The refreshing egg dish and the tonkatsu, whose flavor was brought out by the rock salt, created an exquisite balance that spread deliciousness in my mouth.

The texture of the freshly fried pork cutlet and the combination of the meat, rock salt, egg and rice make this a top-notch katsudon. Delicious!!

This is a restaurant you’ll want to visit again and again.
