A katsudon restaurant located at the back of Sakae-dori in Takadanobaba.
A restaurant offering a wide variety of rice bowl dishes.

This time I ordered the Demikatsudon, a katsudon topped with demi-glace sauce.
I got a large portion of rice and a double portion of tonkatsu! The total came to 1,400 yen including tax.
First, I took a bite of the tonkatsu, which was drizzled with demi-glace sauce…the sweet, rich sauce clung to the batter, making it the perfect side dish for rice. Since I ordered a double portion, the rice was covered in so much tonkatsu that it was almost invisible.
The cutlet was of average thickness, but cut into bite-sized pieces, so I could eat it along with the rice.
Next, I sipped the sauce by itself…yes, it was rich, but subtly sweet.
This demikatsudon is an open-faced katsudon, so the egg bowl is nestled underneath the tonkatsu.
After eating the cutlet on top, I ate the egg bowl.
The sauce, egg, and rice were all mixed together in perfect harmony, almost like a demi-glace rice porridge. It felt like something new. The runny egg and demi-glace porridge were delicious!
Next time, I tried it with pork cutlet…it felt like a new kind of rice bowl, with pork cutlet mixed in with demi-glace porridge.
It was rich and delicious. I couldn’t get enough rice! It was so flavorful I could eat it forever.
Halfway through eating it, I noticed a slice of pickled daikon radish in it. Is that slightly salty touch a kind of flavor change? It’s an interesting touch.
(By the way, I tried sprinkling some rock salt on it out of curiosity, but the demi-glace sauce was rich enough that it didn’t add any noticeable flavor, so I stopped after one slice.)
The bowl was filled with double pork cutlets, almost doubling up the surface. The rich demi-glace sauce was plentiful. It was satisfying with a large serving of rice! It would have been even more satisfying with a mild miso soup!
Next time, I’d like to try the classic katsudon! Enjoy changing the flavor with the wide selection of condiments in front of the counter seats!
