This area is Shirokane, but it has a lovely downtown, down-to-earth feel.
This is a small soba restaurant near Kitasato University.
I went to a soba restaurant intending to eat katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl), but then I saw that they had katsu curry as their daily lunch special, so I reflexively ordered that, with a large portion of rice.
For the set, I chose the cold soba.
It came with hiyayakko (cold tofu).
First, we start with soba noodles.
We don’t add anything to the soba noodles… they’re boiled a little firm, and because it’s cold, the soup is quite strong.
The soba noodles are just the right amount of chewy, and have the consistent deliciousness that you’d expect from a soba restaurant.
Next, we add the condiments and wasabi! The combination of green onions and wasabi is the best.
The tart flavor of wasabi is one of the best parts of eating soba noodles.
Next is curry.
As usual, we try it first… Oh, it’s good.
It’s like homemade curry, but it’s also quite spicy.
In terms of homemade curry, it’s about spicy.
It’s a type of curry with a strong thickness.
The curry clings to the pork cutlet and rice, and you can really taste it.
The way the curry wraps around the pork cutlet and soaks into the batter is also great, like a homemade curry.
This kind of curry is so good you’ll feel like you could eat it forever.
Curry at soba restaurants is really good.
After washing down your palate with some cold tofu, you go back to the curry and eat it with fukujinzuke…they are perfectly coordinated, making a great combination.
The combination of saltiness and spiciness is the essence of the deliciousness of Japanese curry.
Although it’s said to be homely, it’s a taste that you can’t get at home.
Although it wasn’t what I had planned, today’s daily lunch was a great choice.
With the rising price of rice, there was a sign saying that the price would be raised in a few days, but with this volume I would have been satisfied even for around 1,500 yen.
By the way, the price today before the price increase was 100 yen more for a large portion of rice, but it was only 1,050 yen!
I was lucky to come before the price increase.
But even with the price increase, it’s a delicious restaurant that I’d like to come back to.
Wow, curry at soba restaurants is really good!!
Next time I’ll have the katsudon!
